Detailed Itinerary
Bahai Temple & the Uganda Museum
After an early morning breakfast, you will start off your city tour with the Baha’i Temple. In fact, this is the only temple of the Bahai faith on the African continent. It is perched on top of Kikaya hill with its magnificent architecture, several species of trees, flowery plants and lush gardens. If you are a bird lover, watch out for different bird species here. The spot is abundant with a variety of colorful birds with over 50 bird species recorded. Therefore, feel free to take pictures and videos of these wonderful moments. Later, proceed to the Uganda Museum which is the oldest museum in East Africa. This place displays and exhibits ethnological, natural-historical and traditional life collections of Uganda’s cultural heritage. Among the collections encountered here include; hunting equipment, playable musical instruments, weaponry and archaeology.
Heritage Sites
Kasubi Tombs & Kabaka’s Palace
You will utilize your afternoon visiting the heritage sites. Start with Kasubi tombs where the four Buganda Kings were put to rest. Here, you will have a chance to encounter with the traditional Baganda ladies as they demonstrate the traditions. These include; food preparation, the mode of dressing not to mention but a few. Afterwards, you will head to Lubiri which is the Palace of the Kabaka of Buganda. While here, you will have an opportunity to learn about various traditions of the Buganda culture. Here, you will also have an encounter with the Amin’s torture chambers. These were used by Idi Amin to torture his suspected opponents during his blood dotted reign in Uganda. At the gate of this Palace is a traditional fire source that has never burnt out. This is the inception of the Buganda monarchy and shall never stop burning least a king is dead.
Gadhafi National Mosque
You will then continue to Gadhafi National Mosque which is the headquarters of Muslim faith in Uganda. As a matter of fact, it is the second largest Mosque in Africa. The mosque was designed in a modern structure with magnificent features of art. The interior and the design was based on the cultures of Europe, Arab as well as African touch. Here, the guides will take you around the mosque where you will be able to view the impressive art.
There are architectural designs in the main hall and minaret which offers great scenic views of the seven hills in Kampala city. While here, men are advised to wear long sleeved shirts and long trousers. Later, you will head to the African Craft Village that has a number of stalls selling handicrafts. These include; cane ware, wood carvings and small trinkets from around the country. You will crown your city tour with a walk to Nakasero market which is one of the largest market. This market sells things like foods, clothes, textile and much more.
