8 Days Uganda Chimpanzees & Wildlife Safari

This 8 Days Uganda Chimpanzees & Wildlife Safari : starts from Kampala to different wildlife destinations in Uganda. You will start your safari with Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary to Murchison Falls National Park, Kibale Forest National Park. Then conclude your safari with Queen Elizabeth National Park.  During this safari, you will have the greatest wildlife experience as you spot different species from their natural habitats.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary-Murchison Falls National Park-Top of the falls

After your morning breakfast, you will be picked from your hotel. Thereafter, start your journey to the magnificent Murchison Falls National Park. This is Uganda’s largest national park with lots of natural wonders. Start with Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary and here you will be able to do your on-foot rhino tracking. However, the time taken to locate them depends on their movements.

Have your lunch then connect to Murchison Falls through Kichumbanyobo gate. Upon arrival, start with your first activity which is a walk to the top of the falls. Here, the Victoria Nile waters makes its way through a narrow gorge making a thunderous sound pouring downstream in the Albert Nile. Additionally, this place is good for memorable pictures and taking in the sounds and sights of the falls. Therefore, be ready to take as many photos and videos for memories to take back home. Later check in your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Morning game drive-Afternoon Boat cruise

Having your early morning breakfast, you will go for a morning game drive at the delta. Animals to watch out in include; buffaloes, elephants, giraffes, lions, oribis, Jackson’s hartebeest, spotted hyenas, etc. In addition, the park has got different bird species like the hornbills, oxpeckers, bishops, swallows and much more. After the game drive, drive direct to the dock to enjoy your packed lunch as you in prepare for an afternoon boat cruise. Later, set off for your boat adventure and while on the cruise, you will be able to view different water animals. These include; crocodiles, hippos and some animals at the banks of the river as they quench their thirst.

Also expect to see different bird species like the red-throated bee-eaters, kingfishers, martial eagles and many more. Feel free to take photos and videos as you enjoy wildlife on water. More so, the boat ride will take you to the bottom of the Murchison Falls and when you reach here you will be able to see clearly the mighty waterfalls. Don’t forget to pack some snacks and drinks to enjoy while on this adventurous 3 hour’s boat cruise. After, you will head back your accommodation for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park

Have breakfast and embark on your whole day drive to Kibale Forest National Park. As a matter of fact, this park is a home for 13 primate species in the country including chimpanzees. Arrive in late evening connecting direct to your booked lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Chimpanzee trekking-Bigodi wetland visit

After breakfast, your guide will transfer you to the briefing point before the chimpanzee trek. Here, an experienced ranger guide will take you through a briefing on what to expect during your trekking. Afterwards, start the hike through the tropical forest for an unforgettable and rewarding experience. Upon locating them, you are allowed 1 hour in their presence. Actually, this allows you to enjoy them do their day-to-day activities.

You are also allowed to you take photos and videos for memories back home.  After this chimpanzee experience, will head back to your lodge for a lunch. Later in the afternoon, go for a 2–3-hours nature walk in Bigodi wetland sanctuary. The wetland is basically a birder’s paradise located outside the park and hosts eight species of primates. These include; the grey-cheeked mangabey, L’hoest’s, blue monkeys, etc. Later, head back to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Enjoy your breakfast, later transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park passing through Crater lakes region. Enjoy views of the Rwenzori Mountain ranges. You can choose to have a ‘free’ afternoon at your lodge where you choose to relax and rest. You can as well take an afternoon village walk around your lodge.

Day 6: Morning game drive-Afternoon boat cruise

On this day, you will have an early morning breakfast and later head for a morning game drive in Kasenyi plains. This actually allows you to spot the early risers and nocturnal animals like the leopards as they head back to their dens. You will also spot other animals like lions, elephants, Uganda kobs, buffalos, etc  depending on your luck of the day. During the game drive, you will also have beautiful views of the savanna plains,  woodlands, Rwenzori mountains, etc. Later, head back to the lodge for lunch before proceeding for a boat cruise at the Kazinga Channel. The boat will provide a perfect platform for viewing most of the aquatic wildlife like the hippos and crocodiles. For the bird lovers, this is also a great spot for different bird species. Afterwards head back to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 7: Morning game drive-Lake Katwe Tour

Early morning head to Ishasha sector in search for the tree climbing lions. Interestingly, these lions love to rest on the top of the fig trees which presents unique sights and picturesque moments. This sector will also offer you a different experience since it has a different setting and landscape compared to the Kasenyi. Other animals to encounter during the game drive include; elephants, buffalos, waterbucks, warthogs etc. Later in the afternoon, transfer to Lake Katwe which was formed through a volcanic eruption. While here, you will be able to see the local people extracting rock salt from the main lake to the landing area for sell. You will also be able to interact with locals, taking you through the different salt process, leaving you with great memories. Head back to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 8: Transfer back to Kampala

After breakfast, embark on your journey back to Kampala with en route lunch in Mbarara town. Arrival will be late evening, dropped off at your booked hotel or residence.
